Make the most
of Stalis.
The beach, the tavernas, the day trips — and how to get here without any stress. Everything our guests ask us, in one place.
Stalis makes an easy base for a Crete holiday: a long sandy beach for slow days, plus villages, archaeological sites and the east coast within reach for days out. Veneto is 100 m from the sand, 200 m from the bus stop and a short walk from the tavernas along the bay.
Use this guide for practical ideas on the beach, local food, day trips and getting around.
What to see and do, in and around Stalis.
Stalis Beach, at your doorstep
Stalida Beach has golden sand, shallow water and seasonal lifeguard coverage. Sunbeds and umbrellas are close by, with water sports around the edges of the bay and a two-kilometre seaside walk when you feel like stretching your legs.
Eat like a local
The beach road near Veneto is lined with family tavernas, cafés and bakeries, many within a few minutes on foot. Take your time over local fish, Greek salads and a walk back along the water.
Family favourites nearby
For a family day out, try Aquaworld Aquarium & Reptile Rescue Centre in Hersonissos (4 km), Acqua Plus water park (6 km) or the open-air Lychnostatis Museum. Mini-golf, horse riding and the long sandy beach give you plenty of simpler options too.
Step back in time
The Minoan Palace of Malia is 4 km away, while Knossos and Heraklion's Venetian walls, harbour and museums work well for a longer day out. The Lychnostatis open-air museum is closer, around a twenty-minute walk.
Day trips from Stalis
Local agencies on the coastal road arrange boat trips, sunset sails and family-friendly cruises. You can also book organised excursions to Spinalonga, Elafonisi, Balos or Santorini; ask about current availability and travel times before choosing.
Stalis, Malia or Hersonissos?
Malia has more nightlife and Hersonissos is a larger resort. Stalis is a calmer alternative with a long sandy beach, tavernas and shops still close at hand — a comfortable fit for couples and families.
